The BAC’s 2013 Lyceum Fellowship Competition Studio
General:
A Lyceum Fellowship Competition submission is required
The studio's work mirrors that of the first quarter of thesis/degree project.
There are five assignments and the final review package
Assignment 1 is due the first day of studio: 01/22/13
Assignment 2 is due the second day of studio: 01/29/13
Assignment 3 is the Competition Package, due 03/20/13
Assignment 4 is due 04/09/13
Assignment 5 is due 05/07/13
Final review is on 05/14/13
There will be a class meeting on 03/19/13 - which is during the so called 'break.'
There will be no class meeting on 03/25/13
Learning Goals:

Assignments
Assignment 1a: Present yourself
Using recent work from studio and practice, introduce yourself to the studio. Show work that describes both your conceptual and presentation skills. Using photos and graphics, tell the studio where you're from and what wakes you up in the morning.
Assignment 1b: Present a winning competition
Scan the media to find an example of a winning design competition. Choose an example that interests you. Present it to the studio.
Assignment 2a: Study competition requirements, do a workplan
The competition requirements are found at: http://www.lyceumfellowship.
org/competition.html . Download a copy of the requirements
and study them carefully. Four, specific tasks and sets of deliverables are listed in the package. Develop a written work plan for executing these tasks and creating these deliverables. Present this work plan to the studio for feedback. Modify and update the plan after receiving feedback.
Assignment 2b: Propose alternative actions
Propose at least two, alternative ideas that might be responses to the 'call for action' for discussion in the studio. Each response must contain an idea, a suggestion of its impact, a proposal of its feasibility, and a location. The purpose of these proposals is to get feedback from your colleagues about the potential for your idea.
Assignment 3: due March 20, 2013
Presented in weekly installments until the due date. Create your work-product in keeping with your own work plan. Present
it at the weekly studio meetings for feedback from your colleagues.
Besides presenting your work, assess yourself at how closely your are sticking to your work plan. Modify your work plan, as needed, each week based on your actual progress and the deadline.
Assignment 4: due on 04/09/13

The remainder of the semester (seven weeks) is devoted to making a 'Preliminary Review' as its defined in the 2011 BAC Thesis Handbook. Required areas for this review are "Thesis Concept, Site, Program, and Conceptual Schemes. The first half of the semester was devoted to a thesis concept (you made your case), and, in part, an architectural program. This Assignment 4 is focused on "Site." Based on your competition package, choose a specific site you think is relevant to your
'case.' Create a context plan, illustrative site information, site research, and your interpretation of the site.
Assignment 5: due on 05/07/13
Presented in weekly installments until the due date
This Assignment 5 is focused on the "Program and Conceptual Schemes" area described in the 2011 Thesis Handbook. Based on your competition package and your definitive site selection, create program diagrams, show examples of research on comparable building programs. Do concept models, diagrams, and vignettes that portray at least two, alternative interpretations of the ideas embodied in your competition package.
