Flat and dead ahead,
was alive and green instead.
Deep pockets of life
The constant peril heightens the senses and the enjoyment of the spectacle. Fear, chaos, awe, and beauty all coexist simultaneously
Punched Papers frame the plaza as an old woman sells her goods under the shadow of her colorful umbrella

Solitude out here
but beyond these heavy doors,
there is always more
This stairwell exemplifies an early compromise for Barragán over his inner drive to create something new while working in the context of Colonial architecture. His desire to fill spaces with light is realized here with simple and elegant window frames. The simple embellishments of the railing and light fixture don’t detract from the elegance and purity of the space created.
Getting to
Sierra del Tigre
Guadalajara
Scale can only be experienced in person. No picture or words can describe the overwhelming power that José Clementa Orozco’s murals in the Hopsicio Cabañas of Guadalajara can have on shrinking your perspective and consuming your soul
At Hospicio Cabañas the courtyards can lead you into a maze that you do not want to escape from. Each entry can bring another quiet piece of solitude, a moment in the sun, a brush with the artistic, and even drifting piano music. Orozco’s series of murals, culminating in the Man of Fire awes and overwhelms with its power, but the courtyards balance this with peace.
